Storefront Stories

Jun 19 / News

Behind Every Storefront, there’s a story.

Think about the local shops and restaurants you’ve missed most – the places and people that have become part of your life. The restaurant where you celebrate every family birthday. The store owner who always has time to chat and give treats to your dog. These businesses are what make The Street feel like home, and the sense of connection they bring feels more valuable than ever. Now, as they open their doors, we’re highlighting some of our neighbors through a new series, #storefrontstories. Through photos and Q&A’s, we’re showcasing and celebrating the people behind the businesses you love, who have persevered through uncertain times and continue to make The Street so special.

Watch the stories unfold here and at @shopthestreet on Instagram and get excited to return to your favorites.

Meet Socrates Abreu, the man behind Chilacates, the best Mexican street food in the neighborhood. If you’ve ever run into Socrates, you know he treats every guest like family with a huge smile and a friendly conversation. We are lucky to call Chilacates our familia.

Stop  by Chilacates, located on the pondside of the street next to Polkadog, and try their newest menu additions: crunchy ground beef tacos, churros, and maduros.

Q. What do you love most about your work and being part of the street family?
A. What i love most about being at Forme Barre and being part of the street family is i the community! The studio atmosphere is so positive and peaceful; we all just coming together to move, work, and do what we love! Just as i love the community in the studio, being part of the street family has been so positive for me. I find myself popping into other stores just to say hello! Everyone has been so supportive and eager to collaborate.

Q. What’s one positive thing that came out of the shutdown?
A. I have been thinking a lot about roots of a tree, and how they grow beneath the surface before you can see noticeable changes. While everything seems to have come to a halt, and it may look like nothing is happening, we have been teaching live on instagram (@formebarre), connecting with our clients, moving together, breathing together, etc. I believe we are all growing in a way that doesn’t seem huge right now, but i think things will start to blossom when we are able to open up and get back in the studio!

Q. What are you most excited to do once you’re fully back?
A. I am really looking forward to taking class with other people. The intimacy and personal connection of working out with others is not easily replicated online. It is the best we can do right now, but i am eager to feel the energy and support of a group class.

Q. What’s one interesting fact about you or your business that you want your customers to know?
A. This method is for everyone! There is always a modification that can be made to make the exercise more accommodating to your body, and there is always an advancement to make the exercise more challenging. Our instructors are well trained to make this experience positive and personal for you.
